Abstract:
Complex multi-level systems such as urban traffic can be modeled using holonic agent-based architectures, where agents are simultaneously part of larger groups and contain smaller sub-agents. This paper introduces a formal holonification model that transforms a flat agent-based system into a multi-level holonic one, preserving behavioral properties. Applied to road traffic simulation, the approach improves scalability and emergent coordination, with experiments showing reduced computational overhead and realistic traffic flow patterns.
